#POTA @ K-3729
We had a great time activating the park. I was off work for the day and decided to ride my motorcycle. The weather was great. Everybody else got there before me. The only radio I brought with me was my HT. We had one of our usual suspects KE4I (Den) and a few others. It was KM6QDQ’s (Sam) first activation along with KA4BOI (Alzie). When I arrived Alzie was not there but he had left his IC-7300. After talking to Den and Sam a bit I decided to try and activate on 10 meters with Alzie’s radio.
I could not see much activity but Sam and I went for it. I threw my call out for 10 or 15 minutes and only had 3 contacts. I got pretty excited because one was DX from Italy I1POR! It sure was work to pull him out. He finally came up a little so I could get his whole call. His accent did not help these matters. I made sure to spot myself but no pileup of hunters came around. I eventually gave up. Sam ended up trying to activate, his luck was the same. He got his first POTA contact though.
Dennis ended up doing amazing like always. He was working 40 CW I think with 10 watts. CWOps is starting back soon I think. I’m going to finish the class this time. It really bugged me that I never finished the whole class. I’ve only had one CW QSO with Dennis. I could not copy much but we exchanged signal reports. Recently I moved and my HF rig is not setup yet. I need to get my shack put together so I can get back on the air!
The sun was starting to get low and the temperature was going down. If I was in my car I would have stayed a bit later.
